Take Control Over Power with Seamless Battery Integration

One of the biggest risks to your network performance is flakey electricity (and the odd unwitting attendee who starts unplugging things to charge their phone!). Outages caused by loose outlets or generator glitches can suddenly disconnect and power cycle your router over and over. Adding instant battery power with instant seamless failover means a power failure doesn’t automatically cause an internet outage.

The PopUp WiFi 5G-Force is compatible with the popular Milwaukee M18 and DeWalt XR Li-Ion battery ranges.

Instant Seamless Failover

Connect a battery to any PopUp WiFi unit for a seamless source of backup power. If there’s a sudden electricity outage, your unit will automatically run on battery power, buying you a couple of hours of run time while mains power is restored.

Hot Swappable

The Beast Mach 3 and Titan models feature dual battery plates for double the run time. Easily swap out your batteries for recharging with zero downtime during a show.

Run Times

Run times are based on the performance of a brand new Li Ion battery, fully-charged, with the PopUp WiFi unit running at maximum capacity. Run times will vary according to the health of your batteries. We’ve included minimum run time indications with all PopUp WiFi units below.

Flying With PopUp WiFi

Regulations prevent easy flying with Li Ion batteries, so we added external battery ports, integrated with the popular Milwaukee M18 and DeWalt XR ranges, available nationally. This lets you fly with just your PopUp WiFi appliance (check it in) and easily source your batteries when you land.

FAQ

Your Questions Answered

Do you offer Starlink or satellite internet?

Yes, PopUp WiFi supports optional StarCell which has Starlink integration alongside our bonded cellular units. This is ideal for remote locations with weak Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T coverage, or as backup at high-traffic events where cell towers get congested.

What if there's no cell service at my location?

Our gear is powerful, but not magic. If there’s no cell service available, consider plugging a satellite dish – or two – into your PopUp WiFi unit and we’ll bond that WAN to any other available WAN and continue to manage the network for you.

What is a StarCell?

StarCell is PopUp WiFi's add-on option that integrates Starlink satellite internet to a main unit. The StarCell bonds Starlink with the main unit's 5G and LTE-A from Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T into one managed network, so if either source slows down, traffic shifts automatically. It's ideal for remote sites with weak cell coverage, or as extra backup at high-traffic events where towers get congested.

What if the area for my event only has one cell carrier?

With PopUp WiFi, our motto is "two is one, one is none". If your venue only has connectivity from one cellular carrier, we'll recommend adding our StarCell model, which adds a Starlink connection to your cellular connection. Our units are designed for consistency and reliability, and if only one carrier is available in your area, we have to find that robustness elsewhere. The Starcell is a solution offered by PopUp WiFi boasting a Starlink, for added redundancy via satellite. If your venue has its own WiFi or wired connection, our units can bond these seamlessly into their connection for improved speed and stability.

Can I run event WiFi on battery power?

Yes, PopUp WiFi units run on standard 18V tool batteries: every size in the Milwaukee M18 range and DeWalt XR 18V/20V batteries, including FLEXVOLT in 18V mode. That makes them easy to run where there's no mains power, or if you need to move your unit around during the event.

How long will a unit run on battery?

A healthy, fully charged 9.0Ah battery (9.0Ah or larger is recommended) typically runs a PopUp WiFi unit for up to 3.5 hours, depending on use. Larger batteries, like the Milwaukee High Output 12.0Ah x 2 or DeWalt 12.0Ah FLEXVOLT x 2 on the two-battery Beast Mach 3 and Titan models, can run for up to 10 hours.

Can I hot-swap batteries without losing power?

Yes, on the PopUp WiFi Beast and Titan models. Both feature two battery ports, so you can swap one battery while the other keeps the unit running, which is ideal for live events and on-the-road productions when you need continuous battery power.

Can a battery act as a UPS?

Yes. Plug a Milwaukee M18 or DeWalt XR 18V/20V battery into your PopUp WiFi unit while it runs on AC power and it acts as an onboard uninterruptible power supply, switching over automatically if the power drops, with no downtime.

Do I need backup power for my event internet?

Electrical failures pose one of the biggest risks to your network performance. Something as simple as someone unplugging your unit to charge their phone mid-event can take out your connection when you need it most.

That’s why we baked interoperability into the whole PopUp WiFi range. By adding a battery, you take control over power using batteries you probably already have laying around in your shed, like the Milwaukee M18 range and DeWalt XR batteries. Clip them into the side of the unit for instant failover every time.

What happens if the internet drops during my event?

PopUp WiFi units are built to prevent internet drop-outs in the first place: each one bonds multiple 5G and LTE-A connections from Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T (plus optional Starlink) so if one carrier weakens, traffic shifts seamlessly across the others. Our Slipstream dashboard gives you live visibility, and our 24/7 Peplink-certified network engineers are alerted automatically to any change in performance, making adjustments remotely in real time before you even notice an issue.

Is venue WiFi good enough for my event?

Venue WiFi can work, but it's risky to rely on for your most important connected events. It's often shared with hundreds of other guests and can slow or drop during peak moments like keynotes or livestreams, and frequently does not have any personnel monitoring network performance around the clock. With PopUp WiFi, you don't have to choose: existing venue WiFi can be added as another WAN and bonded alongside 5G and LTE-A from Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T, adding reliability and speed instead of being a risky single point of failure.

Why wouldn't you just use Starlink alone?

While Starlink is a useful tool, we do not rely on it for standalone use in critical connectivity as it represents a single point of failure that could bring the whole network down if it went down. Starlink is one of many kinds of internet backhaul that integrate directly with the PopUp WiFi range.

All PopUp WiFi units utilize Peplink routers. Peplink is an official Starlink partner, ensuring compatibility between our systems and giving our engineers full oversight of all your connections for management and monitoring. When connected, the system bonds the Starlink satellite connection with multicarrier 5G connections from all major carriers.

This bonding process creates a “gold-plated” and highly redundant network. The primary advantage of this setup is that the user will not lose internet access even if one, two, or three of the individual connections fail.

Is cellular better than Starlink?

Cellular and Starlink have different failure points that apply specifically to event internet. Starlink can drop out from weather, obstructions, or satellite handoffs. Standard cellular can struggle when a venue is packed with people on their phones.

PopUp WiFi avoids both these failure points by bonding multiple SIMs across all major carriers. Add a Starlink connection to your PopUp WiFi unit, and Peplink’s packet-level bonding combines it for even more redundancy.

Can I rely on venue fiber connection for my event internet?

A single fiber line is still one point of failure. If it drops, or the venue’s network gets congested, your event loses internet with no backup. PopUp WiFi bonds your venue’s fiber connection with multi-carrier 5G in real time, so a dropped line doesn’t take your network down. Every connection is monitored live by Peplink-certified engineers for total network oversight.

Is 5G or 4G LTE better for event internet?

5G can offer higher speeds and greater capacity where strong coverage is available, while 4G LTE often provides excellent coverage and reliability across a wider range of locations. Rather than relying on a single connection, PopUp WiFi can combine multiple cellular connections and carriers to improve performance and provide redundancy.

Our team assesses the available networks and your event requirements to configure the best connectivity solution for your location.

Can I combine Starlink and 5G for event internet?

Yes, PopUp WiFi units support optional Starlink integration, bonding your satellite connection with bonded 5G and LTE-A from Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T into a single, smoothed network. Our Peplink-certified routers combine all available WANs at the packet level, so if one connection slows or drops, traffic shifts automatically to keep you online. This combination is especially valuable for remote sites, challenging venues, and live streaming, giving you extra bandwidth and redundancy. Our 24/7 network engineers manage the whole setup for you in real time.

Does bad weather affect Starlink and 5G event internet?

Yes, bad weather can affect Starlink and 5G event internet, with Starlinks being particularly vulnerable. PopUp WiFi offers solutions that bond 5G connections from multiple carriers to avoid any single point of failure, meaning that even if adverse weather conditions damage or drop one connection, the rest will remain to carry the load.

PopUp WiFi will assess the quality of cellular connections in your area and build a quote that is tailored to your specific needs to ensure that your internet is steady and reliable, no matter the weather.

What WiFi options will work best for an indoor event?

The best WiFi for an indoor event uses diverse backhaul (connection types) bonded with multiple connections for redundancy and failover. The PopUp WiFi range bonds cellular connections from three carriers, which means that you will still have a strong connection even if one or two carriers have poor signal to the venue. Bonding with ethernet from the venue allows for added speed and reliability.

If your venue has very poor cellular signal, PopUp WiFi offers the "can phone kit", which uses a unit on the outside where the reception is better connecting to a unit on the inside via ethernet.
