Event Overview

Now in its fifth year, BUTTER Fine Art Fair is more than an exhibition—it’s a movement. Created by GANGGANG, the fair celebrates Black creativity, champions equity in the fine art world, and provides a platform where artists retain 100% of their sales.

What sets BUTTER apart is its “no commission” model. Artists walk away with the full value of their work, a rarity in the art fair landscape, and a principle that makes the fair both radical and deeply community-focused.

The Connectivity Challenge

With 700 attendees, dozens of vendors, and a full program of performances, media coverage, and art sales, BUTTER required rock-solid internet across multiple applications:

  • Fast, reliable point of sale systems to process art purchases.

  • High-bandwidth media uploads for real-time coverage.

  • Seamless livestreaming to extend the reach of performances and discussions.

  • Back-of-house operations requiring secure connectivity to keep the event running smoothly.

As BUTTER Director Deonna Craig explained, “Reliability was non-negotiable because art sales and media coverage depended on it.”

PopUp WiFi Solution

PopUp WiFi deployed two Lite units and one Workhorse to create a seamless managed network spanning the fairgrounds. This setup delivered:

  • Unthrottled bandwidth for live streaming and media uploads.

  • Secure, stable connectivity for processing high-value art sales.

  • Guest access networks to keep the community engaged.

  • Back-end support for fundraising apps and event management.

The PopUp WiFi system ensured the BUTTER team could share content instantly with local and national media, keep sales flowing, and give attendees a connected experience from start to finish.

Thanks to PopUp WiFi, BUTTER 5 Fine Art Fair celebrated five years of success with flawless connectivity. Artists sold their work without barriers, media teams broadcast the story in real time, and guests experienced the event without friction.

By pairing a bold mission with reliable infrastructure, BUTTER continues to redefine what an art fair can be: celebratory, community-driven, and future-focused.

Producer’s Comments

“We needed a trusted WiFi solution that could handle thousands of attendees and multiple vendors across a large venue. PopUp WiFi gave us seamless coverage for both guests and staff.” By providing fast, stable, and secure internet, PopUp WiFi made it possible for artists to process sales without interruption, for our media team to share real-time content, and for guests to stay engaged online. This amplified the visibility of BUTTER and directly contributed to the success of our artists. Without reliable internet, sales would have been delayed or lost, livestreams and press coverage would have been compromised, and the guest experience would have suffered.”

Advice to peers?

“PopUp WiFi is more than a service, it’s a safeguard for your event. If you’re producing a large-scale, high-stakes event, don’t leave connectivity to chance. Their system gave us confidence that our artists, guests, and media team could stay fully connected.”

Deonna Craig, Director, BUTTER Fine Art Fair
