Slipstream + 1 x Workhorse

Event Overview

The Premier Speedcubing League’s Captivate event turned Rubik’s Cube solving into a global spectacle. With beginner, intermediate, and professional divisions, the competition was designed to be fun and digestible for audiences everywhere. The professional finals were produced as a four-hour livestream broadcast on YouTube, complete with multiple camera angles and high production values. To succeed, the event needed an internet connection as fast, flawless, and reliable as the cubers themselves. The Challenge

With just a week to go, CEO and Founder Michael Chai discovered that a hardline ethernet service wasn’t possible at the venue in Las Vegas. The entire professional division broadcast depended on finding a bonded solution that could handle high upload speeds – while running outdoors in 105°F heat.

The PopUp WiFi Solution

PopUp WiFi shipped a bonded cellular Workhorse unit directly to the venue within days. Plugged into an ethernet switch feeding four encoder boxes, the unit became the backbone of the broadcast. From 8am to 10pm, under the desert sun, the PopUp WiFi unit delivered a rock-solid connection with zero downtime.

Producer Experience

“I was looking for a trusted cellular bonding solution because I couldn’t get a hardline just a week before the event. I reached out to a few companies, but PopUp WiFi stood out immediately. I’m pretty sure I reached out over a weekend, and by Monday morning I had a quote in hand. By Thursday, the box was on site. That speed and clarity was miles ahead of other providers I looked into.”
Michael Chai, CEO & Founder, Premier Speedcubing League

Michael said working with PopUp WiFi didn’t just solve a technical problem—it lifted the weight of producing a high-stakes livestream under intense conditions.

“They kept our livestream up 100% of the time with zero difficulty, even when we were scaling bandwidth because of the heat. Honestly, I was shocked. All of my other equipment was struggling in the sun, but the PopUp WiFi box just sat there, baking at 105 degrees all day, and didn’t miss a beat.”

PopUp WiFi’s 24/7 support also made the difference.

“It was looking strange early on during setup, but they were extremely responsive via text and even took my calls right away. Over the weekend when I was testing, they walked me through troubleshooting. That kind of support is rare. They felt like true experts in my corner, and it gave me confidence heading into the show.”

And even before committing, PopUp WiFi’s transparency stood out:

“Before we signed up, they showed me a cellular grid of the coverage at our location. That clarified all the risks of going without a hardline and made me trust their service even more.”

The Result

The professional division livestream went out flawlessly to thousands of viewers worldwide. Upload speeds reached up to 100 Mbps, ensuring every solve, reaction, and highlight was captured without interruption.

“If I ever do another outdoor livestream, PopUp WiFi will be the first service I call. They didn’t just give me internet – they gave me peace of mind.”
