Event Network used for
PopUp WiFi Solution
Event Overview
The main purpose of this is event is to educate and train volunteers from around the country that make up the 128 “hubs” of the Honor Flight Network. We come together to train and educate the volunteers on a variety of topics, hear from area Memorial representatives and officials on what is going on in D.C. relative to our bringing over 22,000 Veterans FREE of charge to D.C. and celebrate them at their memorials. Attendees network with each other, share experiences and learn ways to be more efficient at what we do.
PopUp WiFi was our primary internet access point vs the hotel available WiFi. It provided better bandwidth and control for both our back of house needs as well as for our attendees. We use a website for all our “summit” related materials and communications and the attendees used the PopUp WiFi to access this site and materials for use throughout the event.
Producer’s Comments
“Our system uses a very robust website to handle our day to day operations for all our “hubs”/volunteers. If our WiFi had not worked during the event, it would have disrupted several presentations as well as our online event registration process. So being without reliable internet really was not an option. We had used the PopUp WiFi services at a previous event 2 years ago when we celebrated having reached a milestone of 250,000+ Veterans transported to D.C. to be celebrated and honored at their memorials. This event took place outside at the WWII Memorial.
We used an outside 3rd party AV company for our event, so hotel WiFi use would have cost us on a per connection basis. We were able to bring in PopUp WiFi for a much cheaper cost while getting far more bandwidth than the hotel would have accommodated us with. It also gave us the ability to setup our own separate SSID’s for both primary and seconary use. Our Presenters had primary access so that if their need for WiFi became greater during presentation – it would override the attendee use to ensure smooth use during presentations. Thankfully we never reached that capacity requirement – but were glad we had it.
PopUp WiFi was well aware of our location and had quality data on the use of their systems at our location. This was a huge selling point for us. Also as a Not for Profit, they were able to help assist us with some discounts on pricing. The support team was excellent and available by texting during setup/testing and site optimization. Setup was 100% easy and could even be accomplished by someone that was 100% NOT tech savvy. Simply unbox, plug-in and go. That’s it.”
